Why Do I Golf?
Golf. It’s a love-hate relationship, isn’t it? Some days, I feel like a pro, hitting shots so pure that I’m ready to call the PGA. Other days? Let’s just say my putter and I are not on speaking terms—hello, three-putt queen. But despite the ups and downs, I keep coming back to the game. Here’s why.
The Love of the Game
There’s something magical about stepping onto a golf course. The fresh air, the perfectly manicured greens, and the satisfying whack when you hit the ball just right. Golf is my happy place. It’s where I can tune out the world and focus on a simple goal: get that little white ball in the hole.
Golf is a sport that challenges you both mentally and physically. It’s not just about swinging a club; it’s about strategy, patience, and perseverance. It’s about learning to shake off a bad shot and focus on the next one. That mental toughness? It carries over into everyday life.
The Rollercoaster of Performance
Let’s be real, though. Golf isn’t always sunshine and birdies. One hole, I’ll crush my drive down the fairway like a champ. The next, I’m slicing it into the trees, wondering why I even bother. And putting? Oh, putting. Some days, my putter feels like a magic wand. Other days, I’m pretty sure it’s cursed.
But that’s the beauty of golf. Every round is a new challenge, a new chance to improve. The highs make the lows worth it, and every little victory—like sinking a long putt or hitting the green in regulation—feels amazing.
The Bigger Picture
Golf is more than just a game to me. It’s an opportunity to connect—with nature, with myself, and with others. I love the camaraderie of a good round with friends or meeting new people on the course. Golf has a way of bringing people together, whether it’s through shared triumphs or mutual frustration.
It’s also a lesson in humility. No matter how good you get, golf has a way of keeping you grounded. It reminds you to laugh at yourself and to not take life too seriously. After all, it’s just a game—a wonderfully frustrating, endlessly rewarding game.
Why I Keep Coming Back
So why do I golf? Because I love it. I love the challenge, the unpredictability, and the moments of pure joy when everything clicks. I love the way it teaches me to be patient, to persevere, and to appreciate the small victories.
Sure, I’ll probably never master the game. I’ll have good days and bad days. But as long as I’m out there, swinging a club and chasing that little white ball, I’ll be happy. And isn’t that what it’s all about? As long as I can continue to golf with my mom, it will be a good day. The picture is of her and I at Lake Buena Vista Golf Course at Disney.
